Tour to Chichen Itza, the jewel of the Mayan Rivera, Mexico

The Chichen Itza tour is one of the most beautiful, outstanding and most demanded tours in the area of the Mayan Rivera, Mexico. You can hire from Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. We often like to read websites such as El Viajista to quickly and briefly know what is the highlight to visit at a tourist level in the area where we are. There we always find good suggestions on what to know and where to stay, which are great for us when we have visits from friends and family!

As you know, we always travel by van and we love to find isolated and unexploited places. And when we arrive at tourist places that we are interested in visiting, we try to do it on our own and outside the established traditional routes.

Buuuuut, every time friends and family come to visit us, we also like to take the opportunity to take a tour to one of the most prominent places in the area where we are. Hiring an organized tour in these cases have their advantages. For us, above all, it is the way to leave the van parked for a few days and fully enjoy both the tour and the visit of friends and family.

One of the last tours that we have fully enjoyed lately, has been the tour to the most important Mayan archeological park in the Mayan Rivera: The Chichen Itza tour.

The Chichen Itza tour

There are many tourist companies that offer the tour to Chichen Itza, leaving the vast majority from the cities of Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

We decided to hire it from Playa de Carmen.

They came for us on the day of the tour in front of the Coco Bongo store at 7:20 in the morning. From there we went on a bus to the main square of Valladolid, a very well-kept park chaired by a large church and well-preserved buildings. The agencies offer the option to make the personalized KIN MAYA calendar, a kind of Mayan astral chart, very interesting to get to know each other better. We take this opportunity to make that calendar, and this is the result.

After this 30 minute stop, we arrive at the restaurant. After blessing the shaman of the place and going through the handicraft shop, we arrive at the free buffet for lunch, with a variety of dishes and drinks.

Once with a full belly and charged batteries, we arrive, now yes, at our destination: Chichen Itza.

Chichén Itzá:The most important archaeological park of the Mayan Rivera

World Heritage listed by UNESCO, and one of the new seven wonders of the modern world. Chichen Itza, is a very interesting archeological site, also converted into a place full of handicraft shops, which contrasts with the sacredness of the place.

Chichen Itza

For the visit they only leave us two hours of time, so we recommend making the most of the time.

We decided to inform ourselves and ask all the questions to the guide while we were traveling on the bus, so that we could later enjoy the archeological zone, exploring it freely and letting ourselves be amazed by the beauty of the place.

The Kukulkan Temple is the spectacular construction that dominates the archaeological zone of Chichen Itza.

The history of the place and all the mythology and relationship with the cosmos and the stars is really beautiful and amazing, so we recommend that you read information about the place before, such as the one found in wikipedia.

Chichen Itza

After 2 intense hours, as we were in October-November, which is a wet season, the rain made us arrive running back to the bus. From there, we went to our last destination of the tour to Chichen Itza: Cenote Saamal.

Chichén Itzá and Cenote Saamal

The cenotes are natural wells that have formed in limestone lands, and that when the roof collapses, fresh water caverns and caves are generated, which give the place a mysticism and a magic so beautiful and special that it is difficult to describe.

The Saamal cenote is a round formation that in this case is more than 50 meters deep. At the entrance you can rent a life jacket, which is mandatory to be able to bathe in its dark waters. There is also a bar, shops and changing rooms with bathrooms.

Cenote Saamal

At 8 in the afternoon we were back to Playa del Carmen, happy, full of new experiences and knowledge, and with a catering and leisure offer that is concentrated on 5th Avenue and seems endless.

So if you come to visit the area of the Mayan Rivera, we recommend the tour to Chichen Itza. We are sure that it will not leave you indifferent. Enjoy it!
